More to AFMC, Armed Forces Medical College, located in Pune, is the first medical college to be set up by the Armed Forces across all countries in Asia. It was established on 1st May 1948. The institute is a combination of medical education and training of special health care needs of the Armed Forces. The institution provides graduate training for medical nursing and postgraduate training for medical, nursing, dental and paramedical staff. The college is known for its Graduate wing which was established on 4th August 1962 by the then Defence Minister, Shri V.K. Krishna Menon.
Col P.P. Chowdry, MC was the first Commandant of Armed Forces Medical College. The college is situated in eastern Pune in a 119 acres campus. Essential amenities include museums, swimming pool, cafeteria, auditoriums, lecture halls, a cinema theatre, gymnasium, general store and a unit run canteen. All facilities for indoor and outdoor sports are also available. The student hostel rooms are fully furnished.
AFMC Exam 2019 Selection process:
AFMC Eligibility criteria:
- A student must belong to Indian nationality.
- Candidate’s marital status should be unmarried.
- 17 years of age as on 31st December 2019. The candidate must be born not before 01 January 1996 and not after 31st December 2002.
- For B.Sc holders 24 years is the maximum age to apply.
- Candidate should clear 10+2 exam with minimum 60% marks in PCB and 50% marks individually in all subjects or its equivalent from a recognized board or university.
- The candidate must have Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as their subject in 10+2 exam.
AFMC Selection process
- NEET EXAM:
A candidates performance in NEET exam (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) is considered for selection. It is conducted by the central board of secondary education (CBSE). It is a pen and paper exam. The total number of questions are 180 – 45 questions from Physics, 45 from Chemistry and 90 questions from Biology. Total 720 marks question paper. Duration of the exam is 3 hours. All questions are objective type questions with four options given. In 2019 the NEET exam will be conducted from 3rd February to 17th February 2019.
- ToELR exam:
(Test of English language, comprehension, logic, and reasoning). It is a computer-based exam comprising of 40 multiple choice questions of 2 marks each for a correct answer and 0.5 marks minus for every incorrect answer. The time duration of the exam is 30 minutes.
- Psychological assessment test:
it consists of 50 or more situations that the candidate has to rate on the scale of 1 to 5 according to what they will do in that situation. The candidate must answer these questions very carefully and honestly.
- Final Interview:
The interview holds 50 marks. It is taken by the dean of the college personally. It is an interactive session and more like an ice-breaking session for the candidate. All the scores of the candidate are analyzed personally by the dean. All mark sheets, certificates, and scorecards are read and verified.
The formula to calculate final marks obtained by a candidate is (NEET+ToELR)/4+INTERVIEW which is- (720+80)/4+50 = 250. Final marks are calculated out of 250 marks for the admission in AFMC.
